About Me

I am an artist based in Georgia’s lake country, mainly working in acrylics and occasionally in charcoal, pastel, and graphite pencil. Often creating for my own pleasure, I also enjoy working for clients on commission. I typically start with a photograph or several, sometimes combining elements from multiple shots to achieve the desired result.

Born and raised in Tifton, Georgia, I took art lessons as a child from the late Vesette Sanders, who encouraged me and many others in their pursuit of the visual arts.

In college, I earned a journalism degree, then a few years later a bachelor’s and master’s in music. Art was relegated to a hobby. My varied career took me from newspaper reporter to music teacher and eventually paralegal.

I continued to paint on and off throughout my working years, and I enjoyed giving the pieces as gifts for family and friends or doing an occasional commission piece. In retirement I turned more and more to making art, and now it’s my main focus.

When not painting, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, namely my husband, Scott Hudson, grown daughter, Darby Renee, and our cats Jonesy and Jasper.

About My Art

Anyone can take a photo on a cell phone and capture an image, but art happens when you transform that snapshot with unique and often unquantifiable characteristics to conjure feeling and memory.

I’m interested in the distinct personality of a pet, the dreamy atmosphere of a magical day on the beach, or the enchantment of a child’s first walk in the woods. The rendering is therefore romanticized, an idealization accomplished through creative use of composition, color, light, and shadow.

I find endless inspiration for my art through my passion for nature and animals. I can also appreciate manmade beauty in the details of a beloved home, the glitter of a modern cityscape, or even the crackled paint of a weathered boat.

I work mainly in acrylics, but occasionally incorporate watercolor to intensify hues or ink to add a sharp outline to certain elements. I sometimes employ other media, such as charcoal, pastel or graphite pencil, depending on the project. I work on a variety of surfaces, including paper, canvas, wood, and even hollow-core doors.
